Mmmmm…MAPLE!

I FINALLY FOUND IT!! (I mean, I could always use 100% pure maple syrup, but I happen to love the rich flavor of agave. Can’t wait to see how this adds some depth to my fridge oatmeal!)

Recipe: Piña Colada, anyone?

20130125-112911.jpg

I loveeeee a good “drink” in the morning!!

This is a quick protein smoothie I threw together this morning:

  • Pineapple chunks
  • small splash of premium OJ
  • coconut flakes
  • hint of ginger
  • almond-coconut milk
  • vanilla protein powder

ALSO decided this would be a good flavor for my fridge oatmeal.  Just use the base recipe, and add:

  • 1/2 cup crushed or chunked Pineapple
  • smidgen of orange extract
  • coconut flakes

YOU’RE WELCOME!!! 🙂

This was a total fluke, but I’m adding it to my recipe file!!20130124-135342.jpg

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup peaches (fresh or frozen is fine)
  • splash vanilla almond milk (or your milk of choice)
  • plenty of cinnamon & a dash nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup prepared oatmeal (plain instant is fine)
  • agave nectar to taste (honey or pure maple syrup would also work fine

Beast Mode!

C25k week 2 done. Slow & Steady progress: 1.5 miles in under 30 minutes. Feels good to run again. I just have to Mind the Meniscus, lest I end up on the bench (again)

Recipe: Green Goddess Protein Smoothie

I figured a great way for me to stay engaged in this blog experience would be to also post picture updates and recipes, in addition to my regular updates.

That said: I know this may not look very appetizing, but it is surprisingly tasty & sweet! Due to my being a bariatric patient, I have to find ways to get my protein requirements in even though I can’t consume much of anything at one sitting. Protein smoothies/shakes have helped, and you can make them with virtually anything.

This one here features 2 cups of baby spinach, 1 banana, 1/2 cup premium orange juice, milled flax seed, ginger paste, and a scoop of vanilla whey protein powder. This was very frothy & full bodied AND it kept me full until lunch time.

Adding spinach also helped me get in my veggies for the day. Try it!!!
